  Team Spirit
From their college days in the 1960s, Steve and Myrna Anderson have
been a formidable partnership. Now “retired,” they’ve
embarked on a collaborative project to teach Bible studies from Shanghai
            to London.

The Faces of AIDSFive Stories of Faith,
Hope and AIDSHow should Christians respond to the millions who live with AIV/AIDS?
Sociologist Tony Campolo and a panel of Northwest advisors addressed
the question in a recent SPU symposium.
For some SPU community members, AIDS is not just something they
read about in the papers. They’ve experienced the devastation
of the disease — and a gamut of responses from the church.
  Prescription for
Graduate SchoolBefriending DoubtGraduate school enrollment at SPU — and throughout the United
States — is on the rise. For many, a slow economy provides
the perfect window of opportunity to increase skills and marketability.
“God has a soft spot for those who struggle,” said
best-selling author Philip Yancey in a special two-day event on
the SPU campus. He particularly addressed those who hover on the
            margins of faith.

 Campaign Update
A grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation ensures
the continuation of SPU’s Washington School Research
Center. Read about this gift and other developments in

  From the President
SPU aims to take its vision to new spheres of influence and effectiveness. "I
love finding those strategic, economic levers that allow us to
allocate, align, realign and increase our resources — so
that our vision might bear fruit,” says President Philip
              Eaton.

college graduation in consecutive years on campus. [Alumni]
Vocation, Vocation, VocationThree faculty-led initiatives received SPU’s 2002-2003 Faculty
Grants for Theology and Vocation. The grants support projects

                    Falcon sports history. [Athletics]
 My Response
“I’m the father of an AIDS orphan,” says Tim
Dearborn, dean of the chapel at SPU, as he recounts his teenage
daughter’s trip to Uganda. There she visited an AIDS orphan
            sponsored by the Dearborn family.
