| Falcon Legends Hall of Fame to Induct Four New
Members During Homecoming AFTER FIVE DECADES OF contributions as an
athlete, coach, administrator, and faculty member, Wes Lingren
is taking his rightful place alongside ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ’s
all-time greats. Lingren is among four inductees to the Falcon
Legends Hall of Fame in 2006. Also to be honored at the January 27, 2006, luncheon and
                    ceremony during Homecoming
are basketball great Jim Ballard, Olympic rower John Terwilliger,
                    and basketball/
volleyball record-holder Tosca Lindberg. Longtime booster
George Cottrill will be honored posthumously with the Lifetime
Achievement Award. With these inductions, the Hall of Fame
will grow to 20 members. Lingren played basketball and tennis in the formative days
                    of Falcon athletics. Upon joining
the chemistry faculty, he became tennis coach and guided two
teams to national top-seven finishes. Later, he served as
both interim athletic director and longtime faculty athletic
representative to the NCAA. Now retired, Lingren has been
compiling notes for a history of SPU athletics, and he was
the presenting speaker for Bob Thompson’s 2004 induction. Ballard is generally regarded as the top Seattle Pacific
player of the ’70s, twice leading teams into the NCAA
                    tournament and completing
his career as the No. 2 scorer and rebounder, averaging 15.9
points and 9.5 boards. He was the most valuable player of
the 1972 regional tournament. Lindberg was a force for all seasons. She set five records
in volleyball and was the conference
player of the year as a senior. In basketball,
Lindberg holds marks for rebounding and was two-time all-conference.
As a senior she was the NCAA state woman of the year. Terwilliger rowed in the crew that took third place nationally
in 1981, but gained greater fame by becoming a member of the
U.S. crew that took silver in the 1984 Summer Games and gold
in the 1986 Goodwill Games. Tickets for the Falcon Legends Hall of Fame Luncheon must
be purchased in advance by calling 206-281-2085. Back to the topBack to Home
